[He's moving fast, faster than any human can, but not so quickly that it will jostle his current package needlessly.]

Well, this position is awkward, but the view is great!

[Fish just calls out, not much of a filter between their brain and their mouth. But hopefully they could get to safety soon. They aren't sure how beat up Gawain is, but better safe than sorry. So with their last bit of magic, they whisper a healing word ("work!") which does heal him at maximum for that lower level of magic. The knight should feel a nice surge of energy through him, making him feel much less beaten up than earlier.]

Nice view? Hah?

[He's confused and oblivious to exactly why Fish might be talking about a view, which is probably for the best, since otherwise he would be distracted. But he feels that surge of energy and healing and mutters a quickly thanks as he continues on fighting.

It's also the burst they need before suddenly they have left the danger and are now on a street that's been cleared up dangerous plants and probably sprayed down with enough weedkiller to deter even the toughest vine.]

Finally...

[Fish is pretty grateful that Gawain is a strong fighter. Though they did get badly beaten up in the process, they were very sure they might have gotten wiped out if not for him being around.]

Are we safe now? Are you going to put me down?

Yes we are and yes.

[He smiled a bit sheepishly at Fish, setting them down as gingerly as possible.]

I must apologize, I shouldn't have allowed that much harm to come to you. It was careless of me.

[Fish takes a breath, feeling very shaken. Though they did manage to heal themselves, they did also run out of energy to use magic. They could use some proper healing.]

It's all right. I should have expected it. I'm not that experienced an adventurer. I guess I got carried away, inspired by your bravery.

[They give Gawain a small, tired smile.]

[They really are too flattering by far, this Fish. But he shakes his head.]

No, you did fine. And I cannot do anything as impressive as weave magic with songs. Not very good at all.

...are you going to be okay to carry on, or do you need to rest for a moment.

[Or maybe they could try that... moonlacing thing? But he wasn't sure if he should ask right now.]

[Now that they were safe, Fish thought it would be best to have time to rest.]

Let's rest... I think this place is safe enough.

[Though Fish knows by now that moonlacing does get them extra funds and may heal some physical effects, they don't know if it does anything for recovery the same way a healing spell would.]

I shall keep a look out then.

[Though his stance is more relaxed than usual, a sign of his own weariness.]

I think it's probably a good idea if we pull from the fight entirely once we are rested. It would be bad to have a repeat of this.

I agree... how far are we to the evacuation path to Level 2?

[Honestly, they don't trust their sense of direction.]

If I do another rush like the last one, it should take about ten minutes.

[If Gawain doesn't have to slash at anything, his mana should hold out.]

That is if you can handle it. I know it is very fast, even by non-human standards.

[Fish is a bit nervous, but despite getting hurt, Gawain has been doing a pretty excellent job so far. Just out of impulse, and feeling as if the knight had been pushing himself on their account, the merfolk steps forward and enfolds him into an embrace.]

Thank you for protecting me.

[After a moment, Fish feels... somehow better? Though healing magic did help, the touch seemed to be doing more palpable work.]

[Gawain flushed a bit at the embrace, though it did feel nice. More than nice, as he felt a boost in power not dissimilar to if a Master had just reinforced him.

He return the embrace after a moment, patting Fish's back.]

We are in this together and I could never call myself a knight if I let another endure such a battle alone.

[That was a nice, chaste hug. Though Fish does manage to sneak a single butt pat before pulling away.]

Well, I trust you to get us out of this. Are we ready to go?

[Don't think he didn't notice that, but Gawain's not going to get angry that his new fine finned friend got a little fresh, because he's in a very positive mood right now .

And no, he doesn't mind actually.]

Yes we are and I will do all I can to repay that faith you have in me and then some!

All right, I trust you, Sir Gawain!

[Secretly, Fish does hope you the repayment does involve some frisky action, but they wouldn't mind if there isn't any once they're through this.]

[It sadly might not occur to Gawain to compensate with anything more saucy than gratitude. Pure he is not, but he's also very one track mind.

But still, it's time for another powerful rush through, with a passenger yet again!]

[This time, Fish is ready for it, and they cling on to Gawain, fully trusting him as he rushes through the vines!]

[This time is much faster, with Gawain only having to fight a few times before they are out, rushing past a check point, leaving some guards blinking, before Gawain starts.]

Now, let us never do that again.

I hope we never have to.

[Fish sighs with relief, loosening their grip on the knight.]

Thank you again. I don't think I could have survived without you.

It is fine. Besides, a knight needs something to protect or someone sometimes. So you made it a bit easier for me to focus!

[It's said as gallantly as could be, because Gawain is that overjoyed to have survived.]

[And Fish leans in to press a kiss to the knight's cheek before they settle back on their feet.]

[He flushes a little touching his cheek, even though such a thing is not out of the ordinary.]

[Fish beams and watches him for a moment, relishing the way he flushes before looking around where it was now safe.]

[He regains his composure pretty fast at least.]

...no I do not think there is, other than hoping we shall meet again. Under better circumstances of course.
